A change of the seasons
It snowed last night — on Sept. 30. Just the day before it was 85 degrees around 5 p.m.

Casper Mountain this morning on the way to work.
Two friends from Mizzou stopped in Casper on their way back east from Yellowstone and Glacier National Park. They were only here for a few hours, but it felt longer, richer. I’ve missed hanging out with people who already know me. I’m not new to moving and starting over, but I didn’t have the instant connection that comes from having a roommate this time. It takes work to get to know people.
Today was the start of the new fiscal year, so my insurance and vacation days begin today. I’m one of those annoying people who likes going to the dentist, so I cannot wait to get my teeth cleaned. I’ve been blessed with strong, cavity resistant choppers, so let’s hope they stayed that way over the past few years.
Today’s mail brought me the snowboard I ordered last week and my Wyoming license. I’ve skied since I was four and started boarding in high school. With Hogadon Ski area only about 10 minutes away, I’ll be able to go whenever I want for a couple hours. I need new equipment but can’t afford both, so I went with the board because I probably won’t be able to get to many real ski areas this season.
I went to get my license a few weeks ago and was confused when they punched a dozen holes in my Missouri license and gave it back to me with a temporary paper copy. Licenses are processed in one location then mailed in 4 to 6 weeks. I was told I’d have a hard time using the holey Missouri license at bars so I’ve been carrying my passport with my 18-year-old face on it. License plates were somewhat easier to get and I put them on last week.
It’s Oct. 1 and I’m ready to enjoy the snow, I am gainfully employed and I live in Wyoming — officially.
